Digital Processing E-mail

Digital Processing - Most standard photographs taken on digital cameras these still need image processing  - the final image is achieved with special techniques of level adjustment, multiple copies layered together and many other styles and techniques  - in much the same way as images printed from negatives need to be subjectively printed onto the photographic paper - the outcome dependant on the printer - The traditional dodging and burning techiques have been replaced in the 'digital darkroom' as well as the creation of many more techniques. Although the changes can be quite subtle they are important to adding to the image's over all image quality and presentation.

The images above are an example of digital image processing. The intial image (darker), and is what most digital cameras will return today, may have looked fine on its own but with careful and simple techiques the photograph is adjusted to give a better presentation of the original scene.

Digital Image Repair and Manipulation -
Old photographs that have been ill treated through their life or with the process of time have degraded in quality. They can be scanned and repaired digital and then printed out onto convential photographic paper and thus restored to their original quality(and maybe even better !!). Images can also be improved, added to, and even sections deleted were necassary.

Rumour has it that Ansel Adams was believed to have captured one of his most famous photographs - The Dome  - in 1935 only to be released it for public viewing in the 1960s after he was satisfied with its final result.

Digital images also demand their levels, tones, and contrasts adjusted for optimum output.  Digital restoration and image maintainence originated in the studio darkroom but has now also created  an infinite number of options in the 'digital darkroom' age.
